9/30  vs. Sioux City          W 1-0  0   1   1   0 [box score]

Brooks took six shots in the Storm's season-opening win, but the most important one came at the beginning of the second period, when his rebound found the stick of Heikki Liedes, who scored the only goal of the game.

David Glen

Center
Spruce Grove Saints (AJHL)
6'0", 175 pounds
Fort Saskatchewan, AB
Class of 2012
DOB 2/14/1991

Date  Opponent                Score  G   A Pts PIM
--------------------------------------------------------------

9/27  vs. Grand Prairie       W 1-0  0   1   1   0 [box score]
9/29  vs. Okotoks             L 1-5  1   0   1   0 [box score]
10/1  at Camrose              W 3-2  1   1   2   2 [box score]

Glen had the first assist on the only goal of the game Tuesday night...it came off the stick of Tim Nolte with 35 seconds left to raise the Saints' record to 6-0-1...despite the decisive loss two days later, Glen scored Spruce Grove's only goal of the game, on the power play at 11:46 of the first period to tie things at one...he took home Saints star-of-the-game honors in large part because of the snipe, then duplicated the honor on Saturday night when he added two more points to his torrid start...his goal came just 48 seconds after Camrose had taken a 2-1 lead midway through the second period, and his assist was on the game-winning power play goal.

Luke Juha

Defenseman
Vernon Vipers (BCHL)
5'11", 180 pounds
Mississauga, ON
Class of 2012
DOB 3/9/1993

Date  Opponent                Score  G   A Pts PIM
--------------------------------------------------------------

9/30  at Westside             W 5-2  0   0   0   2 [box score]
10/1  vs. Prince George       W 5-4  0   0   0   0 [box score]

Juha returned to action from a freak head injury that caused him to miss all of the Vipers' preseason games, as well as the first two of the regular season...the penalty in his debut was a hook at 16:51 of the third, with the game well in hand...in Saturday's game, he was named one of the four best players for the Vipers by vipersdiehardfan blog, which said "playing in just his 2nd BCHL game played and looked very strong on the Vipers backend. Juha played with alot of confidence and jumped up into the play at times. Really sees and reads the ice well. Looks very calm with and without the puck"...Vernon needed every bit of those attributes as they rallied for three goals in the final 2:27 of the third to tie it up before winning in overtime.

Reed Linaker

Center
St. Albert Steel (AJHL)
5'9", 165 pounds
Edmonton, AB
Class of 2012
DOB 11/4/1991

Date  Opponent                Score  G   A Pts PIM
--------------------------------------------------------------

9/27  vs. Bonnyville          L 1-4  0   0   0   0 [box score]
9/29  vs. Calgary             W 5-4  0   0   0   2 [box score]
10/1  at Sherwood Park        L 2-3  0   1   1   4 [box score]
10/2  vs. Drayton Valley      L 4-5  0   1   1   0 [box score]

The Steel finally won their first game Thursday night, scoring three unanswered in the last 10:17 of the game...Linaker's only appearance in the box score however was a tripping penalty 11 seconds after St. Albert took its first lead, adding a degree of difficulty to completing the comeback...his assist against Sherwood Park came on a goal by brother Cole that briefly tied things at 2 in the third period...neither of his minor penalties in that game resulted in a Crusaders goal...in Sunday night's shootout loss, Linaker misfired on his attempt in the skills competition while his assist opened the game's scoring just 13 seconds from puck drop.

Class of 2012
DOB 5/8/1991

10/2  vs. Kanata              L 2-6  -   -   -   - [box score]

Yeah, Milley's still hurt, so to hold you over, here's a video played at the Lumber Kings' home opener this season...included are plenty of clips of the guy doing his thing from the RBC Cup last season: scoring big goals, taking hits to make plays, and of course, laying people out himself.

Connor Varley

Defenseman
Des Moines Buccaneers (USHL)
6'0", 190 pounds
Lansdale, PA
Class of 2013
DOB 6/3/1992

Date  Opponent                Score  G   A Pts PIM
--------------------------------------------------------------

10/1  vs. Fargo               L 4-5  0   0   0   0 [box score]

The Buccos' season-opening shootout loss was a quiet one for Varley, who didn't record any stats (including shots and plus-minus).

More insight and (finally) something resembling a decent headshot from a major article on Welsh for the second week in a row...it appears that Matt Lindsay was his primary recruiter, and he has in interest in "business, law or architecture"...Salisbury coach Andrew Will says that Welsh "has the potential to play beyond college."
