Commit Cycle: October 18

Men

Kenny Brooks

Forward
Tri-City Storm (USHL)
6'2", 195 pounds
Las Vegas, NV
Class of 2012
DOB 12/11/1991

10/15 vs. Chicago             W 2-0  0   0   0   7 [box score]

While Brooks didn't register a point in the win over Chicago, he contributed in other ways...co-captain Nick Lappin said that Brooks' third-period fight with Ryan Trenz "really motivated the guys to get going"...the fight took place less than a minute after Lappin scored the first goal of the game.

David Glen

Center
Spruce Grove Saints (AJHL)
6'0", 175 pounds
Fort Saskatchewan, AB
Class of 2012
DOB 2/14/1991

Date  Opponent                Score  G   A Pts PIM
--------------------------------------------------------------

10/12 at Grande Prairie       W 4-1  1   1   2   7 [box score]
10/13 at Grande Prairie       W 5-4  0   0   0   0 [box score]
10/15 vs. Grande Prairie      L 2-3  1   0   1   2 [box score]

Glen's two points, including a goal with three seconds left in the first period, propelled the Saints to a 2-0 lead, which proved enough last Wednesday...he got into an (extremely) rare fight late in the second as well en route to player-of-the-game honors...in addition to a line of zeros on Thursday night, Glen misfired in the shootout, although it didn't hurt the Saints in picking up full points...his Saturday goal at 10:48 of the third period on the power play sent the game to overtime, but he once again missed on his shootout attempt as the Storm turned the tables.

Luke Juha

Defenseman
Vernon Vipers (BCHL)
5'11", 180 pounds
Mississauga, ON
Class of 2012
DOB 3/9/1993

Date  Opponent                Score  G   A Pts PIM
--------------------------------------------------------------

10/14 at Chilliwack           L 1-4  0   0   0   2 [box score]
10/15 at Penticton            L 2-6  -   -   -   - [box score]

The Vipers were uncharacteristically swept over the weekend, sacrificing first place in the Interior Conference to Curtis Loik's Penticton club in the process...Juha's third-period interference penalty led to Chilliwack's game-winning goal, although that's mostly a technicality since the Chiefs scored twice more after that...VipersDieHardFan Blog indicates that Juha was a healthy scratch for the standings-shifting game with the Vees.

Reed Linaker

Center
St. Albert Steel (AJHL)
5'9", 165 pounds
Edmonton, AB
Class of 2012
DOB 11/4/1991

Date  Opponent                Score  G   A Pts PIM
--------------------------------------------------------------

10/12 at Lloydminster         L 2-5  -   -   -   - [box score]
10/15 vs. Calgary             L 4-6  -   -   -   - [box score]

The reason Linaker missed both of his team's games is unknown at this time - hopefully it doesn't involve his problematic knee.

Curtis Loik

Forward
Penticton Vees (BCHL)
6'1", 205 pounds
North Vancouver, BC
Class of 2012
DOB 4/23/1993

Date  Opponent                Score  G   A Pts PIM
--------------------------------------------------------------

10/14 at Westside             W 8-3  0   1   1   0 [box score]
10/15 vs. Vernon              W 6-2  2   0   2   2 [box score]

Loik's assist in the romp over the Warriors came 2:27 into the second period with the Vees already up 4-1...his play was of much greater consequence in Penticton's big win over the Vipers, however...he opened the scoring 2:26 into the game by chasing down his own rebound after snapping it on net from the circle (viewable 25 seconds into the video below)...he also closed it on a shorthanded empty-netter with 1:04 left (at 6:02 of the video)...for his efforts, he edged out Notre Dame commit Mario Lucia for first star of the game honors.

Eamon McAdam

Goaltender
Waterloo Black Hawks (USHL)
6'2", 180 pounds
Perkasie, PA
Class of 2013
DOB 9/24/1994

Date  Opponent               Score SA GA  Sv% GAA

10/14 at Dubuque             L 1-3 --  -  --- ---  [box score]
10/15 vs. Cedar Rapids       W 3-1 --  -  --- ---  [box score]

McAdam still has yet to play in the regular season with Jay Williams carrying the load in net...that situation is unlikely to change in the near future with the Black Hawks in first place at 3-1-1 and Williams locking down a stellar 1.77 goals against and .940 save percentage to this point.

Jonathan Milley

Right Wing
Pembroke Lumber Kings (CCHL)
6'4", 220 pounds
Ottawa, ON
Class of 2012
DOB 5/8/1991

Date  Opponent                Score  G   A Pts PIM

10/14 at Gloucester           W 6-2  -   -   -   - [box score]
10/16 vs. Nepean              L 1-3  -   -   -   - [box score]

With Milley still out, the Lumber Kings are still treading water, although the loss to Nepean dropped Pembroke seven points behind the division lead at 7-7-1-0.

Matt Skoff

Goalie
Sioux City Musketeers (USHL)
6'0", 186 pounds
McKees Rocks, PA
Class of 2012
DOB 7/23/1991

Date  Opponent               Score SA GA  Sv% GAA

10/14 at Cedar Rapids       L 2-10 42  6 .857 8.18 [box score]
10/15 vs. Lincoln           L 1-4  35  3 .914 3.05 [box score]

Skoff was touched up for six goals against Cedar Rapids before being pulled with 16:21 remaining in the game...his replacement, Austin Priebe, fared no better, allowing four goals on 10 shots...Skoff took a rare (for a goalie) roughing penalty late in the second period of the blowout loss...he lost again the next day, although in much more respectable fashion (Lincoln's fourth goal was on an empty net)...in an interview with Lions 247, Skoff confirmed that he indeed decommitted from Ohio State because he wanted to start school this year, while the coaches wanted him to wait until 2012.

Connor Varley

Defenseman
Des Moines Buccaneers (USHL)
6'0", 190 pounds
Lansdale, PA
Class of 2013
DOB 6/3/1992

Date  Opponent                Score  G   A Pts PIM

10/15 at Youngstown           L 1-5  0   1   1   0 [box score]

Varley's assist in the Saturday game came 6:21 into the second period and trimmed the Phantoms' lead to 2-1...however, he was also on the ice for Youngstown goals 1 and 3, giving him a -1 rating for the night...he was a -2 on Friday night with two shots.

Thomas Welsh

Defenseman
Salisbury School (Prep)
6'0", 195 pounds
Toronto, ON
Class of 2013
DOB 2/1/1995

In an extensive interview with The Scouting Report, Welsh spoke about sticking to his chosen development path despite heavy criticism, his reasons for picking Penn State, the type of player he is, and even his MMA training...Salisbury School's schedule has not yet been released, but it will begin sometime in the vicinity of the beginning of December.

Mark Yanis

Muskegon Lumberjacks (USHL)
6'2", 195 pounds

DOB 5/26/1994

Date  Opponent                Score  G   A Pts PIM

10/14 at Fargo                L 1-7  0   0   0   8 [box score]
10/15 at Sioux Falls          W 6-5  -   -   -   - [box score]

Yanis took another load of penalty minutes against Fargo, including a roughing double minor stemming from an altercation with Nicholas Stoskopf...his -2 for the game doesn't tell the entire story, as he was on for six of the Force's seven goals, with three of those coming on the power play...given all of that, combined with the fact that it's not out of line with how he's started the season, his being held out of Saturday's game makes sense.

Women

Jill Holdcroft

Forward
Pittsburgh Penguins Elite 19U
5'1", 121 pounds

10/16 at Toronto Aeros        L 0-6  -   -   -   - [box score]

Holdcroft did not make the trip to Canada with the Pens Elite Girls, who participated in the USA-Canada Cup over the weekend...numerous college scouts attended the event, including representation from Penn State.

Darby Kern

Forward
Pittsburgh Penguins Elite 19U
5'11", 145 pounds

10/14 at London Devilettes    L 1-2  0   0   0   0 [box score]
10/15 vs. Brampton Thunder    W 4-2  0   1   1   0 [box score]

10/16 at Toronto Aeros        L 0-6  0   0   0   0 [box score]

Although the Penguins only went 1-3-0 in the first four games, Kern supported the teams cause with points in three of the games...her goal came with just 38 seconds left in the loss to the Lightning, but her assist against Brampton was on the game-winning goal.

Emily Laurenzi

Forward
National Sports Academy (Prep)
5'5", 125 pounds
Townsend, DE

10/16  vs. Buffalo Bisons     W 7-1  -   -   -   - [box score]

Laurenzi had quite a nice weekend in NSA's 2-0-1 set against the Buffalo Bisons...she scored twice and added two assists in the three games to go with four penalty minutes.
