Commit Cycle: March 6 (Men)

Casey Bailey

Forward
Omaha Lancers (USHL)
6'3", 195 pounds
Anchorage, AK
Class of 2012
DOB 10/22/1991

Date  Opponent                Score  G   A Pts PIM
--------------------------------------------------------------

2/24  at Fargo                W 4-1  1   1   2   0 [box score]
2/25  at Sioux Falls          W 3-2  1   0   1   0 [box score]

3/4   vs. Tri-City            L 3-4  0   0   0   2 [box score]

Bailey continues to be one of the USHL's most prolific scorers...his 50 points are tied for 7th in the league, while his 23 goals are tied for 8th...meanwhile, the Lancers remain in first place in the Western Conference after a good two weeks.

Kenny Brooks

Forward
Tri-City Storm (USHL)
6'2", 195 pounds
Las Vegas, NV
Class of 2012
DOB 12/11/1991

Date  Opponent                Score  G   A Pts PIM

2/24  vs. Sioux Falls         W 4-1  0   0   0   0 [box score]
2/25  vs. Lincoln             W 3-2  0   0   0   5 [box score]

3/4   at Omaha                W 4-3  1   0   1   2 [box score]

Brooks' goal held up as the game winner in a huge win over Omaha...the Storm is presently in the final Western Conference playoff spot - but only by a single point over the Sioux City Musketeers of David Goodwin and Matt Skoff, so they'll need more of that in their final 11 games.

Max Gardiner

Center/Left Wing
Dubuque Fighting Saints (USHL)
6'2", 175 pounds
Minnetonka, MN
Class of 2012
DOB 5/7/1992

3/6   vs. Drayton Valley      W 5-0  1   0   1   0 [box score]

As the AJHL North Division regular season champions, Glen's Saints got to sit idle for the first round of the league playoffs with a bye...they begin their best-of-seven second-round series with Drayton Valley in style, with a game one shutout.

David Goodwin

Center
Sioux City Musketeers (USHL)
5'9", 187 pounds
St. Louis, MO
Class of 2012
DOB 2/27/1992

3/2   vs. Sioux Falls         L 0-2  0   0   0   0 [box score]
3/3   vs. Muskegon            L 1-3  1   0   1   4 [box score]

Through no fault of Goodwin, who has 32 points in 38 games since arriving from Green Bay, the Musketeers have fallen behind the Storm in the race for the final Western Conference playoff spot with 12 games to go.

Luke Juha

Defenseman
Vernon Vipers (BCHL)
5'11", 180 pounds
Mississauga, ON
Class of 2012
DOB 3/9/1993

Date  Opponent                Score  G   A Pts PIM

2/24  at Cowichan Valley      L 4-6  -   -   -   - [box score]
2/25  at Powell River         L 2-4  -   -   -   - [box score]
3/3   at Westside             L 1-3  -   -   -   - [box score]

3/6   at Chilliwack           L 2-4  -   -   -   - [box score]

Juha (post-concussion syndrome) remains on injured reserve...meanwhile his team faltered badly down the stretch (three wins in the last 10 games) and will miss the BCHL playoffs for the first time since 2000-2001, a fate sealed by the loss to David Thompson's Chiefs.

Kevin Kerr

Defenseman
Team Comcast (AMHL 16U)
5'11", 155 pounds
Bensalem, PA
Class of 2014

2/26  at Phi. Jr. Flyers      W 6-4  0   1   1   2 [box score]

Despite the win against the Little Flyers in their final league game, Team Comcast (12-8-1-1) missed the AYHL Midget 16 - National playoffs by five points...the Long Island Royals, coached by Hockey Hall of Famer Pat LaFontaine and featured on the NHL Network series Making of a Royal, won the title on Sunday.

Reed Linaker

Center
Brooks Bandits (AJHL)
5'9", 165 pounds
Edmonton, AB
Class of 2012
DOB 11/4/1991

Date  Opponent                Score  G   A Pts PIM
--------------------------------------------------------------

3/6   vs. Calgary Canucks     W 8-3  -   -   -   - [box score]

Much like the Saints, Brooks earned a first-round bye in the AJHL playoffs by winning the South Division regular season championship...and also like the Saints, they began the second round with a dominating win...Linaker (knee) has been sidelined since early December, but he and the team remain hopeful that he can contribute to the coming playoff run.

Curtis Loik

Forward
Penticton Vees (BCHL)
6'1", 205 pounds
North Vancouver, BC
Class of 2012
DOB 4/23/1993

Date  Opponent                Score  G   A Pts PIM

2/23  vs. Trail               W 4-2  0   0   0   0 [box score]
2/25  at Merritt              W 2-1  0   0   0   0 [box score]
2/26  vs. Prince George       W 4-1  0   0   0   0 [box score]
3/1   at Merritt              W 5-3  1   1   2   0 [box score]
3/2   vs. Salmon Arm          W 4-3  0   0   0   0 [box score]

3/6   vs. Trail               W 10-0 0   2   2   0 [box score]

The Vees have now won an incredible 41 games in a row...the team is claiming that it is a new Canadian Jr. A record, while others submit that two more wins will be required ... regardless, Loik was instrumental in win number 40 against Chilliwack...skip to 6:49 and 10:00 into the video below to see his two goals...for a defensive forward, the lack of even one obstruction minor over the last two weeks is noteworthy as well.

Joseph Lordo

Defenseman
Sioux Falls Stampede (USHL)

3/3   at Omaha                L 4-5  0   2   2  12 [box score]

After serving the end of his suspension stemming from the line brawl with Sioux City, Lordo returned with a vengence, although it wasn't reflected in team wins and losses.

3/3   at Fargo               L 1-7 14  3 .786 9.00 [box score]

McAdam twice mopped up for starter Stephon Williams in games against Fargo over the last two weeks...in the first relief effort, he played well enough to earn a start in the next game against Des Moines, but in the second he fared no better.

While Milley (sports hernia) made his return against Hawkesbury, his first game since September 11th...he hopes to contribute to a deep playoff run for the Lumber Kings, as the regular season concludes Friday.

Bo Pellah

3/3   vs. Coquitlam           L 4-5  -   -   -   - [box score]
3/4   vs. Alberni Valley      W 3-1  -   -   -   - [box score]

Like Vernon, Langley has also been eliminated from the BCHL playoffs and is presently playing out the string, which partially explains a six-game losing streak in the late stages of the season...Pellah continues to be the team's leading scorer among defensemen, with 25 points in 54 games.

Zach Saar

Right Wing
Des Moines Buccaneers (USHL)
6'5", 200 pounds
Plainwell, MI
Class of 2012 or 2013
DOB 6/22/1993

2/25  vs. Sioux City          W 6-3  0   1   1   5 [box score]
2/26  at Waterloo             L 3-4  0   0   0   2 [box score]
3/2   vs. Muskegon            W 4-2  0   1   1   2 [box score]
3/3   vs. Lincoln             L 2-5  0   0   0   0 [box score]

Saar's power play goal 42 seconds into the second period opened the scoring in the big win at Sioux City...after slumping badly following his trade from Chicago, he has picked things up of late with five points in his last nine games.

Matt Skoff

Goalie
Sioux City Musketeers (USHL)
6'0", 186 pounds
McKees Rocks, PA
Class of 2012
DOB 7/23/1991

3/3   vs. Muskegon           L 1-3 25  2 .920 2.06 [box score]

Skoff, like Lordo, had to finish off a suspension at the beginning of this two-week period...he was rudely welcomed back by Saar, Connor Varley and the Buccaneers but played well in the two subsequent games, despite losses.

David Thompson

Defenseman
Chilliwack Chiefs (BCHL)
6'2", 187 pounds
Glen Mills, PA
Class of 2013
DOB 5/19/1992

3/6   vs. Vernon              W 4-2  1   0   1   0 [box score]

The flip side to Juha's Vipers missing the playoffs, of course, is that the Chiefs clinched a berth (although they'll likely draw the Vees in the first round, so it could be a short postseason)...Thompson scored the game-winner in the decisive outcome against Vernon.

3/3   vs. Lincoln             L 2-5  0   0   0   0 [box score]

I've mentioned that the Musketeers and Storm are in a battle for the final Western Conference playoff spot, but the Buccaneers are definitely in that mix as well...they are presently 20-23-4, two points ahead of Tri-City and three ahead of Sioux City.

Thomas Welsh

3/2   vs. Lawrence Academy    L 2-3  1   0   1   - [box score]

Salisbury, which won 13 games in a row to polish off a 23-3-0 regular season, was the top seed in the Stuart/Corkery Tournament, a field of eight teams which determines the New England prep champion...after dispatching of Cushing in the opener, Salisbury was upset in overtime by Lawrence Academy, the eventual champion...Welsh's first-period goal in that game gave the Crimson Knights a 2-1 lead and proved to be the team's last goal of the season.

3/3   at Sioux City           W 3-1  -   -   -   - [box score]

While the Jacks are still in playoff contention, at six points behind the final spot with 15 games to play, they'll need to play well down the stretch to make it.
