Commit Cycle: March 7 (Men)

Chase Berger

Forward
St. Louis AAA Blues (Midget Major 18U)
6'0", 190 pounds
St. Louis, MO
Class of 2015
DOB 11/14/1994

The major story with Berger this week, of course, is his winning the Missouri state title with his Saint Louis University High School team - including a primary assist on the championship-winning goal in overtime (fully addressed in this separate post)... elsewhere, Berger's AAA Blues will participate in the Central District tournament next weekend (March 15th through 17th) to try to win the right to attend the USA Hockey national championships.

Even as his team falls further out of playoff contention, Goodwin has managed to serve as a steadying force for the RoughRiders... since his trade from Sioux City this year, he's only gone more than two games without a point once, and his 33 points overall are good for second on the team... although generally considered a playmaker, Goodwin has 37 more shots than anyone else on Cedar Rapids this season.

KUA closed out a 27-2-0 regular season with a win over Proctor and the top seed at the Stuary/Corkery Tournament (the open-division tournament that is considered the New England prep championship) in hand - and was promptly stunned by Gunnery in their first game... it was a crushing end for a team with ten Division I commits that was considered the class of prep hockey all season... still, it has to be said that Greer had a very successful first year in the U.S., finishing with 16 goals and 19 assists, good for sixth in scoring on a stacked team that did everything right until its last game.

Kevin Kerr

Defenseman
Team Comcast (Midget Major 18U)
5'11", 162 pounds
Bensalem, PA
Class of 2015
DOB 2/9/1996

As with Berger, Kerr's high school team takes center stage ahead of Team Comcast's participation in the Atlantic District tournament next weekend, March 15th through 17... Holy Ghost Prep closed out the regular season with wins over Malvern Prep (6-0 on February 22nd) and St. Joe's Prep (4-2 on February 25th), with Kerr registering two goals and two assists in the contest... the Firebirds then began the Flyers Cup tournament with an 11-0 spanking of Archbishop Carroll on Tuesday (although Kerr only put up an assist in that one)... HGP will play Father Judge in the semifinals Thursday evening.

Patrick Koudys

Defenseman

Koudys and Muskegon continue to be stout - the Capitals draft pick is a stalwart on the league's second-best defense -but the Jacks have struggled to score goals all season, leading to occasionally inconsistent results... despite being the third-lowest scoring team in the USHL, they still hold down second place in the Eastern Conference, and at 18 points clear of fifth-place Chicago, are on the verge of clinching a playoff berth.

Alec Marsh

At 19-24-7 and 11 points out of the Eastern Conference's final playoff spot, Cedar Rapids is not yet eliminated, but is quickly running out of time to make a postseason push (most teams have about 13-15 games left in the regular season)... regardless of how that plays out, it's been a solid developmental season for Marsh, who earned a fairly regular lineup spot in the USHL in his 16-year-old season.

The Black Hawks, back to a 50-50 goaltending split between McAdam and Cal Petersen, continue to tread water on the edge of playoff contention - they're 29-18-3, good for a tie for third (with Lincoln) in the Western Conference, but at the same time, that's just one point ahead of presently-out Omaha for the final conference playoff spot... despite a large number of highly-touted players on Waterloo's roster, McAdam hasn't had an easy time of things, as he's faced 35 or more shots in 13 of his 26 games this season, including 40 or more in four of his last six.

On Wednesday afternoon, Pellah was named all-BCHL second team, an honor appropriate of a player that's produced at a high-level all season long, both with Alberni Valley and with Langley before he was traded to the Bulldogs... he perhaps nailed down the all-league nod with his second-star performance in the March 2nd win over Salmon Arm... with just 1-3 games left in the regular season for BCHL teams, Alberni Valley has clinched a playoff spot and third place in the Island Division with a 27-20-7 record.

Although he didn't win, Richard was named a finalist for the AJHL's MVP award - an impressive feat, given that he only played in 42 of 60 regular season games due to injuries (scoring at a point-per-game pace when healthy does help, however)... Spruce Grove once again won the AJHL North Division title, completing the regular season with a 35-16-9 record... thanks to winning the division, the Saints received a first-round bye in the league playoffs, and will be idle until the second round opens next week.

Despite going point-free over the two weeks (in fact, over his last 14 games), Saar has shown improvement since his mid-season trade from Des Moines - not only is his plus-minus much better (-1 in 10 games with the Lumberjacks versus -16 in 30 games with the Buccaneers), but he's also taking fewer penalties, averaging over a minute less in the box per game since joining Muskegon.

As mentioned, Scheid's Stars are in a heated Western Conference playoff battle with McAdam's Waterloo, although they haven't taken full advantage of the Black Hawks' uneven play of late... Scheid, however, continues to sit near the top of many USHL statistical charts - his 47 points are tied for 13th best, and his +34 rating is fourth.

Despite a bit of a stumble towards the finish line (4-10-0 since January 25th), Chilliwack has locked down second place in the Mainland Division with a 31-21-2 record and will join Pellah's Alberni Valley in the BCHL playoffs.

Williamson, who has had absolutely terrible luck with injuries this season (just 23 total games played), sustained another against Sherwood Park that is being called an upper-body injury... the good news is that he'll benefit from the Saints' long layoff due to that first-round playoff bye and is expected back soon.
