Commit Cycle: December 13 (Men)

Chase Berger

Forward
St. Louis AAA Blues (Midget Major 18U)
6'0", 190 pounds

Class of 2015
DOB 11/14/1994

12/7  vs. Boston Advantage    L 2-3  -   -   -   - [box score]
12/7  vs. Team Comcast        L 0-6  0   0   0   0 [box score]
12/8  vs. Phila. Jr. Flyers   L 1-3  -   -   -   - [box score]
12/8  vs. Wash. Little Caps   L 1-2  -   -   -   - [box score]

It doesn't appear as if Berger participated in the Tier 1 Super Showcase in West Chester (given the other games, his being listed for the Team Comcast game seems like a possible error), the only scheduled games for the Blues over the last three weeks... Berger also plays for his school team at Saint Louis University High School, which is off to a 10-4-1 start, including a 5-1-0 record during this Commit Cycle period.

On November 30th, Goodwin was traded from the league-worst Sioux City Musketeers to Cedar Rapids, where he joins fellow future Nittany Lion Alec Marsh... going the other way in the trade: RoughRiders leading scorer Riley Bourbonnais, who is committed to RPI for next year... this is the second consecutive season the St. Louis native has been traded, as he joined the Musketeers last season from Green Bay as part of a blockbuster deal involving NHL first-rounder/boozehound Jordan Schmaltz... said Goodwin: "It’s a lot easier the second time around. I’m thankful for my previous trade because it makes this experience a lot easier. Going into my USHL career, I never thought I’d be traded twice. But, to be honest, both times it’s been great. I think it’s been a great experience to meet new guys, play for a new coach. I feel from a personal development standpoint, it’s been a benefit for me. Each coach likes a different style, so there’s definitely some positives to being a suitcase, as I’ve been referred to."

12/12 at Brewster Academy     W 5-2  1   2   3   - [box score]

Perennial contender KUA is off to a great start, and Greer has been a big part of that - he assisted on the game-winning goal in the Wildcats' closest game, the opener against Williston-Northampton, and had a hand in three of five Wednesday afternoon against Brewster... Greer and his teammates were given the top spot in this week's USHR.com prep power poll, which called KUA the "deepest team in prep hockey."

12/9  vs. MKE Jr. Admirals    T 1-1  0   0   0   0 [box score]

Kerr received a brief call-up to the USHL's Tri-City Storm, the team which drafted him seventh overall in the futures draft this year... at the Tier 1 Super Showcase in West Chester (December 7-9), he earned some bragging rights over Berger's team (although likely not Berger himself), helping to shut down the Blues... Kerr, of course, also plays for Holy Ghost Prep, which is off to a 3-2-0 start... due to his other commitments, he has only played in two games for the Firebirds so far, but put up a goal and an assist in each one.

12/8  vs. Cedar Rapids        W 3-0  0   1   1   4 [box score]

The nature of this post isn't really fair to a defensive defenseman like Koudys, but it is worth noting that the Jacks produced two shutouts in their last six games, including one (Green Bay, obviously) that required overtime... Muskegon's 14-7-2 record is good for 30 points and second place in the Eastern Conference, in addition to being tied with Waterloo's 15-8-0 for the best record of a USHL team containing a PSU commit... the Lumberjacks put out a video featuring Koudys (well, a photo of his head, anyway) as part of a mariachi band playing Feliz Navidad.

A pretty popular opinion in USHL circles is that Waterloo has the two best goalies in the league in McAdam and Cal Petersen... McAdam saw the downside of that dynamic after consecutive rough outings against Des Moines (one from the previous Commit Cycle period), when he found himself mostly chained to the bench for the rest of the last three weeks.

Bo Pellah

Defenseman

12/8  at Vernon               W 4-3  -   -   -   - [box score]
12/9  at West Kelowna         T 3-3  -   -   -   - [box score]

Pellah apparently felt like he had something to prove on December 1st against Langley, his former team... he entered the game with 14 penalty minutes this season and left it with 22, including a high sticking double minor.

Zach Saar

Right Wing
Des Moines Buccaneers (USHL)

12/8  at Chicago              W 3-0  0   0   0   0 [box score]

Saar was suspended for a headshot during his two-assist effort against Waterloo on November 21st (to see the hit, go to the 5:11 mark of the video linked below - the assists are before that in the video as well, although that's a mixed bag with McAdam the goalie being torched)... in his return to the lineup, he was -5 (the only Buccaneer with a number that low) in the blowout loss to Green Bay.

12/12 at Cedar Rapids         L 1-3  0   1   1   0 [box score]

Scheid's game log, which includes an eight-game point streak, more or less speaks for itself... in all, the Minnesotan has a point in 17 of his 21 games this year... not surprisingly then, he ranks in the USHL's top ten in scoring (9th), assists (T-7th) and plus-minus (1st with a +19).

12/5  vs. Coquitlam           L 2-3  0   0   0   0 [box score]

Chilliwack has dropped two straight after winning nine of ten, but remains on top of the Mainland Division with a 19-8-2 record... Thompson was named first star of the November 24th win over Merritt and also was voted (with partner Shay Laurent) half of the BCHL's top defensive pairing in a poll on the league's website.
