"I felt we made a mistake in building a baseball field. I thought that should have been the ice skating rink, because I think hockey in this state right now, not just hockey, but ice skating, if you come up to our office building at 6:00 in the morning, some mornings you can't get a parking spot because parents have taken their kids up here to skate...I think hockey will be a great addition to our intercollegiate program. [The Pegula gift] is a great, great gift. And I think very far-sighted and I'm really pleased with it." - Joe Paterno

Although Berger was uncharacteristically quiet statistically, the Blues finished their Tier 1 schedule strong to end up 29-6-4, good for first in their division... the first-ever T1EHL playoffs will take place February 15th through 18th... with 61 points in 36 games, Berger will likely take the league scoring title (there are a few games involving other teams left this weekend)... Saint Louis University High finished its regular season 22-5-2 (3-1-0 over the last two weeks) and as second seed in the Mid-States Club Hockey Association playoffs, will take on Kirkwood in a best-of-three series this weekend for the right to go to the MSCHA final four.

The Riders have dropped seven of eight overall to slip out of playoff contention at fifth place in the Eastern Conference, in what looks like a four teams for one spot race... Cedar Rapids is three points behind fourth-place Youngstown (the current leader in that race) and scored a big win over the Phantoms on Saturday, but has played two more games.

KUA lost just its second game of the season on Wednesday at Andover to drop to 23-2-0... Greer's 17 goals this season are second on the team only to Nick Roberto, a Maine commit... considering the Wildcats' roster also includes players pledged to Boston College, Boston University, Massachusetts, Merrimack, Providence, St. Lawrence, Bentley and Mercyhurst, that's pretty impressive... in the only close game other than the loss (against Tilton on January 25th), Greer's second-period power play goal was the winner.

For the second time this season, Kerr got a call-up to the USHL's Tri-City Storm, which selected him in the 2012 USHL Futures Draft... he missed a couple of Team Comcast's AMHL games that weekend as a result, but returned in time for last weekend's Tier 1 showcase... Team Comcast edged out the Jr. Flyers in their Tier 1 division with a 28-10-2 regular season record... Kerr finished with a 5-21-26 scoring line in T1EHL games... Holy Ghost Prep was 2-0-1 over the last two weeks (the Firebirds are 9-4-1 overall)... Kerr scored twice in a 13-5 rout of Pennsbury on January 28th and had an assist in a 4-4 tie with LaSalle.

Muskegon, one of the few bright spots among the "Penn State" USHL teams this season, has hit a bit of a rough patch, although not nearly as rough as it appears above, as three of the four losses were in overtime or a shootout... Koudys has a +3 rating and 83 penalty minutes this season.

McAdam has continued as Waterloo's primary goaltender in the two weeks following The Save, a decision bolstered by two poor Cal Petersen starts (he was pulled in the Tri-City game, McAdam played the last two periods and overtime in that one) and that paid off with outstanding efforts against Omaha and Green Bay... against the Gamblers, he held up well against a high shot count - one of the goals against was during a garbage-time 6-on-4, while another was a rebound off of one of Waterloo's backchecking forwards... Waterloo, the best USHL team of those populated by PSU commits at 26-14-1 and second place in the Western Conference, is 14-4-1 in McAdam's decisions.

The remarkably consistent Pellah has continued to pay dividends for Alberni Valley, which acquired him from Langley in a trade this season... his 26 points (including Langley stats) are best among Bulldogs blueliners, and ninth among d-men across the entire BCHL.

Spruce Grove's unheard-of (considering their status as one of the AJHL's perennially dominant teams) seven-game winless skid is due in part to Richard's absence with an upper-body injury since January 4th... he's expected back shortly.

Last Wednesday, Saar was traded from Des Moines to Muskegon, along with the Buccaneers' fifth-round pick for the upcoming futures draft, with Muskegon's second-round futures pick going the other way... with the Lumberjacks, Saar not only jumps up the standings (from fifth place to second place), but also joins Koudys and women's forward Cara Mendelson's brother Matt... Saar, who was also teammates with freshman defenseman Connor Varley with Des Moines last season, will presumably know his teammates pretty well when he arrives in the fall.

Like teammate Richard, Williamson has battled injury issues this season, returning to the lineup for the first time since October 27th in the January 29th game... while the Saints remain atop of the North Division at 28-14-9, they now find themselves in a tight race, with six other teams within eight points and five within four.
