Commit Cycle: November 20

Men

Chase Berger

Forward
St. Louis AAA Blues (Midget Major 18U)
6'0", 190 pounds
St. Louis, MO
Class of 2015
DOB 11/14/1994

Date  Opponent                Score  G   A Pts PIM
--------------------------------------------------------------

11/16 vs. Thunder AAA         W 5-2  1   1   2   0 [box score]
11/17 vs. Ohio Blue Jackets   W 3-2  1   0   1   0 [box score]
11/17 vs. Pittsburgh Penguins L 3-4  2   0   2   0 [box score]
11/18 vs. Buffalo Jr. Sabres  W 5-0  1   1   2   2 [box score]

Berger turned in his usual high-octane effort at a Tier 1 showcase in Troy, MI by scoring in each game, including a late winner against the Blue Jackets... in 18 Tier 1 games so far, Berger has 19 goals and 11 assists.

Conor Garland

Forward
Muskegon Lumberjacks (USHL)
5'6", 150 pounds
Scituate, MA
Class of 2015
DOB 3/11/1996

Date  Opponent                Score  G   A Pts PIM
--------------------------------------------------------------

11/9  at Dubuque              L 1-5  -   -   -   - [box score]
11/10 at Dubuque              L 3-5  0   0   0   0 [box score]
11/14 vs. Indiana             W 3-0  -   -   -   - [box score]
11/16 at Indiana              W 4-3  -   -   -   - [box score]
11/17 vs. Youngstown          L 3-6  -   -   -   - [box score]

USHL rookie Garland hasn't cracked the lineup often this season, but if you have to sit, there are worse ways to do it than with the second-place team in the Eastern Conference (11-5-1).

David Goodwin

Center
Sioux City Musketeers (USHL)
5'9", 170 pounds
St. Louis, MO
Class of 2013
DOB 2/27/1992

Date  Opponent                Score  G   A Pts PIM
--------------------------------------------------------------

11/8  vs. Des Moines          W 6-3  1   2   3   0 [box score]
11/10 vs. Waterloo            L 2-5  0   0   0   0 [box score]
11/16 at Cedar Rapids         L 3-4  0   0   0   0 [box score]
11/17 at Waterloo             L 2-3  0   1   1   0 [box score]

Sioux City snapped a four-game losing skid against the Buccaneers on November 8th... said captain Goodwin after his three-point night: "We know if we want to be successful this season, we have to play more gritty than we were in the last 10 games. Maybe not this many fights, but we liked it and we felt it gave us the edge tonight. The fights are huge for momentum, especially when you get them from guys like (Conor) Andrle, (Charlie) Ackerman, guys who don’t expect it, but they’re momentum changers for us..." unfortunately, the Muskies resumed losing immediately afterwards, and are now a league-worst 3-9-3.

Kevin Kerr

Defenseman
Team Comcast (Midget Major 18U)
5'11", 162 pounds
Bensalem, PA
Class of 2014
DOB 2/9/1996

Date  Opponent                Score  G   A Pts PIM
--------------------------------------------------------------

11/10 vs. Phila. Jr. Flyers   W 4-1  0   0   0   0 [box score]
11/16 vs. Colorado Rampage    W 4-0  0   0   0   0 [box score]
11/17 vs. Russell Stover      W 4-0  0   0   0   0 [box score]
11/17 vs. Colorado T-birds    W 4-1  0   0   0   0 [box score]

While Kerr was quiet statistically at the Tier 1 showcase in Troy, MI and in a stand-alone game with the Jr. Flyers, he still had quite a busy two-week period... Holy Ghost, his prep school, opened its season last Monday, with Kerr scoring a goal in a rout of Council Rock North... he was also called up to the USHL's Tri-City Storm - the team that picked Kerr seventh overall in this year's USHL Futures Draft - and will get a quick look from the brass in Kearney, NE for the next Commit Cycle period (part of "the brass," incidentally, is PSU freshman Kenny Brooks' father Kirk, who owns the Storm).

Alec Marsh

Forward
Cedar Rapids RoughRiders (USHL)
5'10", 175 pounds
Bridgewater, NJ
Class of 2015
DOB 11/28/1995

Date  Opponent                Score  G   A Pts PIM
--------------------------------------------------------------

11/9  at Lincoln              L 0-5  -   -   -   - [box score]
11/10 at Omaha                L 1-3  0   0   0   0 [box score]
11/16 vs. Sioux City          W 4-3  -   -   -   - [box score]
11/18 at Team USA             L 3-4  -   -   -   - [box score]

Marsh once again joins Garland in his struggle to get regular ice time... Cedar Rapids, however, is seven points behind Muskegon in the standings, at 7-6-2.

Eamon McAdam

Goaltender
Waterloo Black Hawks (USHL)
6'2", 185 pounds
Perkasie, PA
Class of 2013
DOB 9/24/1994

Date  Opponent               Score SA GA  Sv% GAA
--------------------------------------------------------------

11/9  vs. Omaha              L 1-6 --  -  --- ---  [box score]
11/10 at Sioux City          W 5-2 --  -  --- ---  [box score]
11/16 vs. Des Moines         L 6-8 33  7 .788 7.31 [box score]
11/17 vs. Sioux City         W 3-2 --  -  --- ---  [box score]

After missing the first two games of this Commit Cycle period while helping Team USA to the gold medal at the World Junior A Challenge, McAdam was rudely welcomed back to the USHL by the Des Moines Buccaneers... even so, he remains among the league's top five in most major goaltending categories, including his circuit-topping .933 save percentage.

Bo Pellah

Defenseman
Alberni Valley Bulldogs (BCHL)
5'11", 150 pounds
New Westminster, BC
Class of 2014
DOB 5/25/1995

Date  Opponent                Score  G   A Pts PIM
--------------------------------------------------------------

11/9  at Powell River         W 4-3  -   -   -   - [box score]
11/10 at Powell River         W 6-1  -   -   -   - [box score]
11/14 vs. Nanaimo             W 4-2  1   0   1   2 [box score]
11/16 at Victoria             L 4-5  0   1   1   0 [box score]
11/17 vs. Vernon              W 2-0  0   1   1   0 [box score]

Like McAdam, Pellah had to miss a pair of games to travel to Nova Scotia, except for the CJHL Prospects Game, won by his West team... he returned to the Bulldogs in good form, picking up a point in each game and being tabbed as third star in Friday's loss to Victoria... Pellah's 17 points this season are tied for third best among BCHL blueliners.

Zach Saar

Right Wing
Des Moines Buccaneers (USHL)
6'4", 210 pounds
Plainwell, MI
Class of 2013
DOB 6/22/1993

Date  Opponent                Score  G   A Pts PIM
--------------------------------------------------------------

11/8  at Sioux City           L 3-6  -   -   -   - [box score]
11/9  vs. Fargo               W 3-2  -   -   -   - [box score]
11/10 vs. Fargo               L 4-5  -   -   -   - [box score]
11/16 at Waterloo             W 8-6  -   -   -   - [box score]
11/17 vs. Tri-City            L 2-3  0   0   0   0 [box score]

It's unknown why Saar missed four consecutive games (before the game on Saturday, he last played on November 3rd), but whatever the reason, at least he's back in... while the Bucs aren't exactly thrusting themselves into the USHL contender conversation, they are performing much better than projected - their 7-9-1 record is good enough for the Western Conference's final playoff spot at the moment.

Eric Scheid

Forward
Lincoln Stars (USHL)
5'9", 163 pounds
Coon Rapids, MN
Class of 2013
DOB 5/5/1992

Date  Opponent                Score  G   A Pts PIM
--------------------------------------------------------------

11/9  vs. Cedar Rapids        W 5-0  1   1   2   0 [box score]
11/10 at Sioux Falls          L 2-5  -   -   -   - [box score]
11/16 vs. Dubuque             L 2-3  0   0   0   0 [box score]

Penn State's newest commit leads the USHL in +/- (+15) and his 14 points are good for second on the Stars... Lincoln began the season on a ten-game winning streak, but has cooled off to drop three of four.

David Thompson

Defenseman
Chilliwack Chiefs (BCHL)
6'2", 187 pounds
Glen Mills, PA
Class of 2013
DOB 5/19/1992

Date  Opponent                Score  G   A Pts PIM
--------------------------------------------------------------

11/7  vs. Langley             W 5-1  0   2   2   0 [box score]
11/9  at Coquitlam            W 4-2  0   0   0   0 [box score]
11/10 vs. Penticton           W 5-4  0   0   0   2 [box score]
11/16 at Surrey               W 2-1  1   0   1   2 [box score]
11/17 vs. Coquitlam           W 5-1  1   1   2   7 [box score]

Chilliwack's torrid pace at the moment (the Chiefs are on a six-game winning streak) has the team sitting at a BCHL-best 16-5-2... Thompson, for his part, had an interesting pair of games over this past weekend... on Friday, he was named third star of the win over Surrey thanks largely to his shorthanded game-winning goal... the next day, he registered a Gordie Howe Hat Trick in the blowout of Coquitlam.

Women

Amy Petersen

Forward
Minnetonka (MN) High School
5'4" // Minnetonka, MN
Class of 2013
DOB 10/2/1994

Date  Opponent                Score  G   A Pts PIM
--------------------------------------------------------------

11/13 at Apple Valley         W 5-1  0   3   3   0 [box score]
11/16 at Roseau               W 7-3  3   3   6   0 [box score]
11/17 at Warroad              W 2-1  0   1   1   0 [box score]

It's safe to say that Petersen and the back-to-back defending Minnesota AA state champs have picked up where they left off, opening the season with three consecutive road wins, including that six-point bomb from Petersen against Roseau... Petersen was named one of 20 Twin Cities-area players to watch this season by the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Laura Bowman

Forward
Minnetonka (MN) High School
5'7" // Minnetonka, MN
Class of 2013
DOB 11/8/1994

Date  Opponent                Score  G   A Pts PIM

11/17 at Warroad              W 2-1  2   0   2   0 [box score]

While Petersen took the spotlight against Roseau, it was her linemate's turn against always-tough Warroad, scoring both of the Skippers' goals in a big early-season test... Bowman joined Petersen on the Minneapolis Star Tribune's watch list.

Sarah Nielsen

Forward
Edina (MN) High School
5'6" // Edina, MN
Class of 2013
DOB 12/2/1994

Date  Opponent                Score  G   A Pts PIM
--------------------------------------------------------------

11/10 at Blaine               W 4-1  1   3   4   0 [box score]
11/13 vs. Lakeville South     T 1-1  0   0   0   2 [box score]
11/15 at Prior Lake           W 7-1  0   1   1   5 [box score]
11/17 at Chaska/Chanhassen    W 5-1  0   2   2   0 [box score]

One of this season's major storylines, at least in terms of PSU's commits, will be whether Nielsen's Edina Hornets can topple Minnetonka and win a first state championship on the girls side (Edina is a legendary school in boys hockey, with 10 Minnesota titles)... while it's not entirely accurate to say Nielsen held serve thanks to the tie with Lakeville South, her statistical output was certainly worthy of her rivals and future teammates.

Kelly Seward

Defender
Nichols School/Buffalo Bisons 19U
5'9" // Williamsville, NY
Class of 2013
DOB 6/7/1995

Nichols School's season opens up on November 30th... in the meantime, Seward played for the Bisons in a pair of games each against the Ohio Flames and Ontario Hockey Academy, although the results are unavailable.
