"I felt we made a mistake in building a baseball field. I thought that should have been the ice skating rink, because I think hockey in this state right now, not just hockey, but ice skating, if you come up to our office building at 6:00 in the morning, some mornings you can't get a parking spot because parents have taken their kids up here to skate...I think hockey will be a great addition to our intercollegiate program. [The Pegula gift] is a great, great gift. And I think very far-sighted and I'm really pleased with it." - Joe Paterno

The Pens Elite had a fantastic time of things as host of the Pittsburgh Girls Thanksgiving Classic tournament, advancing to the final via five straight wins...Holdcroft and Kern were instrumental in that run, registering points in each win as was Walkom, who was an important part of a defensive effort that only surrendered four goals in six games.

Oh, and about Walkom...she's PSU's newest commit, announcing last Monday...if the last name sounds familiar, it should: her father is NHL referee (and former director of officiating) Stephen Walkom...she has also competed for Team Pittsburgh, including with now-and-future teammates Kern and Holdcroft at the 2010 Tier I 16U national championships...she was also, along with Kern, invited to the USA Hockey National Development Select 16 camp that summer.
