That would generate interest from all 4 fanbases in all games, not only the ones their team is playing.

I do take some issue with the idea that there are a bunch of hot goalie tournament cinderellas in this years Frozen Four. You have the regular season champions of the WCHA, Hockey East and ECAC. Those hardly sound like teams that got a hot goalie for 2 games and are making runs.

You could make the case Yale is a cinderella, but beating Minnesota and North Dakota is no small feat.Brandonnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1327069433246447816.post-88523696428090879912013-04-04T14:54:13.921-04:002013-04-04T14:54:13.921-04:00I was for playing the first round games at the &qu...I was for playing the first round games at the "highest seed" site, but you make a good argument that the PWR isn't exact enough and too much swings on very little. That's a good point, although maybe it would give more significance to early season non-con games, which isn't so bad.

I think that would be less of a problem if they didn't care about putting teams from the same conference against each other in the same regional. That bothers a lot of people but I don't see why it should. So, for example, if Minnesota, ND, SCSU, and Mankato (just to name four teams in this years tournament) all had to play at Minnesota, that wouldn't be so bad in my opinion because at least all of the fans could make that trip fairly easily if tickets were fairly allocated.

The neutral sites is certainly better than the worst of all situations, which is to play at pre-determined campus sites and then skew the bracket so that a team can play at home regardless of its seed. That's how it is in Women's basketball and how PSU, which should have been a 2 seed, ended up as a 3 seed playing a 6 seed LSU at LSU's home gym. BS.

I'd like to see the first round not be single elimination. Yes, it's kind of cool that we have Cinderella teams in the frozen four this year, but I feel like it devalues the regular season if one down period or one hot goalie performance can knock out the best team so easily.

How about trying the baseball system. First weekend: Four teams play double elimination at a campus or semi-neutral site relatively close to the top ranked team, and maybe consider putting a close-by second seed near it's home too even if that means teams from the same conference in the same pool. Play games Thursday through Sunday.

Second weekend, remaining 8 teams pair up for a single elimination games all at one site. (unlike baseball where the superregionals are best of three).

Frozen Four, at the same venue the following Thursday and Friday Nights primetime before the Basketball Final Four. Possibly hosting the D111 Frozen Four the same place as an undercard or during that week between the final 8 and frozen four. Make that whole week a festival of hockey in that city with ticket packages offering college fans discounts to the local NHL team (make sure they play at home that week) and vice versa.Reednoreply@blogger.com
